Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Terminations and Mismatches
1) What is the difference between a Termination and a Mismatch?
A termination properly loads a transmission line to reduce reflections. Mismatches are used to create reflections for testing purposes. Here are some examples:
50 Ohm termination: 50 Ohms to ground from the center pin.
50 Ohm 1.5:1 mismatch: 75 Ohms to ground from the center pin.
50 Ohm 2.0:1 mismatch: 100 Ohms to ground from the center pin.
50 Ohm 10.0:1 mismatch: 500 Ohms to ground from the center pin.
2) What is the XXX in mismatch model numbers used for?
The XXX is used to list the mismatch value. Here are some model number examples:
50T-338-1.0 N M 1.0:1 termination with N male connector
50T-338-1.5 BNC M 1.5:1 mismatch with BNC male connector
50T-338-2.2 SMA F 2.2:1 mismatch with SMA female connector
3) Do you have any high peak power terminations?
Yes, we just don’t have them in our catalog. Models are available that handle up to 20 KW pulses. Please contact JFW at sales@jfwindustries.com with your specific pulse width, duty cycle, and period.
4) I need a custom termination designed. How much are your typical NREs (non-recurring engineering charge)?
JFW does not charge NREs. Please send your custom requirement to sales@jfwindustries.com.
